Useful Internet Links - The quick, the hot, and most user friendly internet sites

This is meant to be a quick access list to what we at the web ring consider some of the cream of the crop of web sites out there. This page can also be used as your quick springboard into the wonderful world of the internet if you have only recently begun the Journey.

Search Engines:
You must become familiar with search engines if you plan to accomplish much on the world wide web. These are your taxi drivers, your chauffeurs, that reveal the hidden gems you seek by weeding them from the billions of possibilities.

If one search engine does not help you try another. A key usage tip with Altavista is that it heavily relies on the TITLE of the web page and works primarily off of the first two keywords you search on. Ask Jeeves lets you pose your search request in a question format. Google has a powerful search engine and of course one of the oldest but, often biased search/index pages is Yahoo.

Online Shopping:
Contrary to some beliefs, online shopping can be a very pleasant experience. It offers some things you cannot find when browsing through a store. It is quick, easy, and you never have to leave your home. The downside is that it is sometimes fun to leave your home.

AMAZON.COM is still one of the best sites to go for music, books, videos, software, and even auctions. Its unique approach to providing you reviews on books even seems to out do walk in book stores in my opinion. You can't be fooled by a cover here. EBAY is the largest online auction site. You can literally buy and sell anything there. People have sold bags full of pine cones!!!

NEWS SITES:
These are links to various sites where you can read headlines and articles. Many people like to use the web to track down their daily news. We hope these links serve you well.

These links are to informational and reference sites. These sites are often specialized but, they are good at what they do. If you need to research something and don't want to hit the search engines right away, try these.

Entertainment:
These sites are for reviewing games, playing online games, downloading music, downloading full length novels and more.

Free Email+:
These sites feature free online email addresses for your use. If you do not have a free online based email it is HIGHLY recommended you get one. Also, in this section are links to sites that will let you build free web pages like this one.

While there are several free email places CHEK.COM is a good one if you don't have one as it has several different domain names to choose from. Some of the others like YAHOO are getting crowded and you have to end up using a pretty off the wall email name. TRIPOD.COM is where this web ring web page is hosted for absolutely free.
